Growing with Christina

In keeping with our survival theme, Skyler's Mom, Christina came in last week to help us with planting. Yes, planting in January! We have planted lettuce, sunflower, chives, tomatoes, potatoes and a few other seeds. When we first began, Christina asked the question, "What do plants have to do with survival?" the responses were: to give us oxygen, to give us food, to help us breathe, to provide shelter. We plan to expand on these ideas over the next few weeks as we delve into the theme of survival. We will also revisit these themes again in the spring when we attend Ohio State's Scarlet and Gray Ag(riculture) Day in May.

    Yea! This is fun and the class is so excited to grow. Thank you for letting us get dirty and grow food - these kids are amazing, bright, intuitive and in touch with nature already. I hope this helps them refine some of those great skill they've learned at home and school!

    I hope you guys leave the blog for years to come - it would be cool if they could come back and see it in High School. Just a thought.
    I'll miss visiting you both, hope we get to be a part of your class when it is time down the road. . .
    I picked up all the supplies today - and cried again.
    Thank you both for the best year anyone could have hoped for.
